The role

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with good communication skills and the ability to deal calmly and professionally with difficult situations. To help generate a positive outlook in the Borough.

As a Safer Place Officer, you will carry out the enforcement of Public Spaces Protection Orders and Litter and any other legislation as deemed appropriate.

You will be required to patrol, on foot, locations across the Borough and provide a broad range of advice including rough sleeping, begging, street trading, waste and street checks. You will also be required to patrol Public Parks and take appropriate action on offences within those areas.

You will also be required to assist in tasks related to Community Safety, which includes providing advice to visitors, checking signage is adequately marked, assisting at Community Safety Events, making referrals to outside agencies, liaising and working alongside a wide range of partner agencies.

You will be required to work over five days, which will include some evenings and weekends with TOIL (Time Off In-lieu) given for weekend and evening working.  

Essential qualifications/experience

Minimum of 4 GCSE’s, grade C or equivalent, one of which must be English, Experience of working in a public facing role, Previous experience in a customer facing role and handling difficult situations in a professional manner, Experience of issuing Fixed Penalty Notices 

Desirable qualifications/experience

NVQ trained in being a Civil Enforcement Officer.

SIA Qualification. NVQ Customer Services.  Experience with another authority or enforcement provider.  Experience of body worn camera usage.  Experience of issuing and dealing with Fixed Penalty Notices for Litter, PSPO, Fly-posting.
